Excel: Using the Integration
PipelineDeals Excel Integration Demonstration 7:35
The PipelineDeals for Excel integration allows you to quickly import data from any of your saved filtered lists in PipelineDeals. Each tab in Excel can support its own filters, allowing you to pull in various data to marry for robust reporting. Data is easily refreshed, and even automatically refreshed when opening the file, so reports stay up to date. You can even share files with your team!
It is important to note that each time data is refreshed all existing data on the tab is wiped out and reimported. This means that all formulas, graphs, and pivot tables should be created on separate tabs, referencing your data tabs. If you need information on how to download and install the plugin, please see our installation article.
NOTE: The Excel integration is only compatible with the PC 2010 and 2013 versions of Excel. If you're a Mac user or if you do not use these versions of Excel, you can import your data and process reports using our Google Sheets Integration instead.
For inspiration, check out these Example Excel Reports that have been created from PipelineDeals data.
Importing Data
Once you have opened Excel, navigate to the Data tab at the top of your screen where you will see the PipelineDeals action button.
When you click on the PipelineDeals button it will bring up this drop-down menu:
Clicking on Import Filtered View will bring up a window listing all of your PipelineDeals saved filtered lists. (If you need information on setting up filters, click here.) Simply select a filtered list and the data will import into the tab, respecting the column selections you have in PipelineDeals.
Here is the data that was imported to Excel from PipelineDeals.
You can now use the data to create all sorts of different charts and tables. In this following example, we are analyzing what sources have brought in the most revenue. This may give some insight on where we want to focus our marketing dollars.
Refreshing your Data
In order to get updated information, you can reopen the file and the sync will pull the new data in and update your graphs and charts, depending on how you have them setup. Alternatively, you can press the Refresh button from the PipelineDeals button dropdown.
NOTE: You need to create your graphs, tables and formulas on a different sheet from where you imported your data. The refresh will wipe everything out on that page.
If you would like to create a static report that no longer updates, simply select “remove filtered view.” This will break the connection to PipelineDeals but retain the most recently imported data.
Collaboration
Although using the same Excel file on a shared drive isn't supported, you can email files generated with the integration to someone else. If they don't have the integration installed, they will receive a normal, static Excel file, with data as it was at the point you sent it. If they do have the integration installed they can use the refresh and auto-update features to download the most up to date information. In this scenario we suggest using a Global Filter, this ensures that the formatting remains the same for everyone viewing the document.
