Update by Import
The update by import feature allows you to apply bulk changes to existing records in your PipelineDeals account. With it, you can update data in all default and custom fields in your account.
NOTE: Your account must have the update by import feature turned on. Please contact us for assistance. It is important to note that you CANNOT undo an update by import.
Also note that while it’s a fairly straightforward process, there are a few details to pay attention to. Please review the steps below and contact us if you have any questions.
Export the Data You Want to Update
In the Companies, Deals, or People list view, filter for the records you want to update (refresher on how to filter)
Use Select columns to show only the columns you plan to update.
Click on the gear icon, then select Export CSV file
Prepare Your CSV File
The CSV file contains a column with the unique internal ID for each company, deal, or person record. This is needed for the update by import.
Make the changes to your file, then save it as a CSV. If you are adding a new custom field to your CSV, add the field to your PipelineDeals account before importing the CSV.
Import Your File
To perform the update by import, go to the Companies, Deals, or People list view, then click the down arrow next to "Add new person/company/deal" and select "Excel or CSV" underneath "Import".
Click the Upload file button to select your updated CSV file to import. PipelineDeals will check to the file to make sure it is formatted properly.
Map Your Fields
Importing people? See Note for Importing People Records, below.
Once the file has been checked, you can map the columns from the file to the corresponding fields in your account. If your file has columns of data that are not being updated, select “Ignore this field” for those columns.
Map the Company ID, Deal ID, or Person ID column in the spreadsheet to the last mapping option, called “ID (for updating records).” (If the spreadsheet has more than one ID column, choose the ID that matches the type of import you’re doing and select “Ignore this field” for the others.)
NOTE: The "Organize your data" dropdowns are ignored when updating by import. To change the person Type (Contacts or Leads), Source, Owner, or Tags, use columns in the spreadsheet. It also does not matter whether or not you enable duplicate checking, as you are not creating new records.
You will receive an email when the import is complete. If any records were not imported, the email will contain a link to a spreadsheet that lists the records and the error message for each.
