PipelineDeals and CAN-SPAM Compliance
The CAN-SPAM law is a federal United States law that covers any email sent for commercial purposes. The law requires that you must accurately represent your business, including physical location, and that you allow anyone who wishes to unsubscribe from your emails to do so.
In order to help you comply with the law, we require that you provide your physical mailing address be included in all mass emails that you send out. We also automatically include an option to unsubscribe in all mass emails that you send out. These must be included in order to adhere to the standard set out in CAN-SPAM and cannot be edited (except to change your address as needed) or removed.
Before you send out your first email campaign, you’ll be asked to provide your physical address. Please make sure to provide an accurate mailing address where you can receive snail mail. If you do not have a business address, we recommend renting a post office box. Do not use a false address - the FTC can fine you up to $16,000 for each individual email you send with false information, and that adds up quick!
We also provide you with the tools necessary to prevent you from emailing people who ask to be removed from your mail list, but who don’t use the “unsubscribe” link in your email. You can manually mark a person as “Unsubscribed” by editing the person from their profile page and checking the box next to “Unsubscribed”, a field which may be collapsed in the “System Fields” section of additional fields in your edit person form. It is part of your responsibility as an email sender to make sure to unsubscribe anyone who asks to be removed in a timely manner, even if they don’t use the link at the bottom of the email you sent them.
If you would like to learn more about the law, you can find more information on the Federal Trade Commission’s website. Because PipelineDeals is based in the United States, we have a legal obligation to comply with this law, even if your company and your recipients are not located in the United States.
